about the residency

Sloss Metal Arts Visiting Artist Residency is a 30 day program designed for both emerging and mid-career artists interested in developing their studio practice, exploring new direction for their work, and honing their technical skill. Residency can be completed within any 30 day period agreed upon by artist and Sloss Metal Arts staff. 

The residency provides artists:

        24-hour access to sculpture facilities 

        $500 stipend

        Furnished apartment 

        All casting materials

Application Deadline - February 25th 

requirements 

Resident artists are required to work 20 hours per week assisting SMA Staff with daily operations, demo pours, weekend workshops, and foundry maintenance.  Artist will be asked to create and leave behind one sculpture for the Sloss Museum collection. Residency candidates must submit the following with their application:

        Artist Statement 

        Digital Portfolio – 10 images 

        Letter of intent 

        2 reference contacts

Artist selections are made by Sloss Metal Arts Staff and a carefully curated committee of artists, educators and people dedicated to Sloss and advancing the arts. Our committee is looking for a committed artist, curious to explore new ideas and concepts, with a focused intent for their time at Sloss. Strength and quality of work will also be considered.
